Exilis Skin Tightening | Fat Reduction | Pinellas Park

What is Exilis?

Exilis is the newest FDA approved non-invasive treatment for body shaping and skin tightening.

It uses both infrared light and mono polar RF (radio frequency) to deliver controlled high energy heat approximately 1-3 cm under the skin (to the dermal and subcutaneous layers) resulting in skin tightening and fat melting.

Exilis tightens skin and helps you lose inches in problem areas (neck/jowls, arms, bra strap area, abdomen, male chest, thighs and knees).

Radio frequency is a form of energy that causes your skin to heat up and stimulate collagen and tighten skin. The mono polar radio frequency is what differentiates Exilis from other radio wave technologies.

This particular RF allows the waves to go deeper and exert more energy to dissolve the fat cells while the infrared is used to tighten the skin.

Exilis has two separate treatment heads, one for the body and one for the face.  Skin temperature is monitored as RF energy is delivered.  It is FDA cleared for wrinkles around the eyes. Exilis is not a laser.

What does Exilis treat?

Exilis is ideal for the tightening of loose skin and circumferential reduction of fat.

Exilis can be used all over the body.  It is perfect for stubborn fatty areas resistant to diet and exercise.  Some of the more popular areas treated are: abdomen, thighs, knees, “bra fat”, and “bat wing” arm fat.

We have found excellent results in our practice with Exilis. It is ideal for skin tightening particularly of sagging skin of the face, around the eyes and even the hanging skin of the arms.

We have seen excellent results with:

When will I start seeing results?

Everyone is different, but some people start to see results as early as 1-2 treatments. Most will see significant results after 5-6 treatments. Those who wish to have larger volumes reduced may need 6-8 treatments.

We schedule the treatments every 7-14 days.

We recommend that you take measurements of the area treated as well as drop by for a weekly weigh-in. There is no pain, and most  patients describe the treatments as warm and tingling.

What are the side effects of Exilis?

We have not seen any side effects aside from some redness and mild tenderness over treatment areas, which usually does not last more than a few hours.

How long do Exilis results last?

The results are completely individual.

However, if you achieve fat loss and circumferential reduction as desired, one would expect that these effects should be semi-permanent if you can continue to live a healthy lifestyle and maintain proper body weight.

If you revert to over-eating and discontinue regular exercise, you certainly could gain weight and add fat back to the existing fat cells in the treated areas thus reversing what your Exilis treatments already accomplished.

That being said, aging is a continual process and periodic maintenance treatments may still be required to combat the inevitable battle with the changes associated with aging.

How do Exilis treatments actually help reduce fat?

Exilis is an FDA approved form of skin tightening that also does fat/volume reduction.

Exilis is a radio frequency device that puts a lot of energy into the skin.  This energy bulk heats the skin causing the collagen to tighten and causes the fat cells to open and spill out the contents. It is an effective way to spot treat exercise resistant fat — think stubborn lower abdomen pouches or love handles.

Exilis treatments utilize an applicator that is massaged over the desired treatment area.  This applicator cools the top of the skin while pushing heat to the fat layer.

The heated fat cells become metabolically active which causes the fat to exit the cell.  Once the fat exits the cell, it is excreted.

Post-treatment exercise and hydration will promote the elimination of the fat.

The treated fat cells are injured during the process and become unable to uptake more fat.  Many of the fat cells do not recover and this eliminates these cells as a fat storage site.   After the fat melting, the cooling on the applicator is turned off which allows the focus of heat on the top layer of the skin thus producing skin tightening.

How does Exilis tighten skin?

It is important to note that Exilis is FDA-cleared for improving skin laxity and the appearance of wrinkles.  The radio frequency thermal energy boosts the body’s natural ability to produce and rebuild stronger collagen fibers. Your skin will tighten and become younger-looking.

Maximum results are usually seen 4-6 months after treatment sessions.

About the Exilis equipment: What makes it so different?

The biggest advantage of the Exilis equipment is its safety. Previous  technologies that reduce fat worked similarly but were unable to penetrate deep enough without harming the patient’s skin.

Exilis comes equipped with Dermal Temperature Control (DTC) . The DTC system ensures the patient’s skin is left unharmed. It even keeps track of the skin’s temperature and allows us to adjust the machine’s temperature accordingly.

The DTC system allows for more efficient and consistent results thereby eliminating unpredictable strengths of pulsed light emitted by similar machines.

Most patients will start to see very nice improvements following the 3rd treatment (average) and when the patient would benefit from some reduction of fullness under the chin in addition to tightening the jowls, neck, and lower face, we can easily incorporate the different energy to be delivered to that specific area.

Exilis is a safe and effective form of non-surgical skin tightening. Whether it is suitable for you we have to determine. We offer free consultations to determine if you would be a good candidate for a Exilis.

Exilis: Is there a risk of the RF remaining in your body after treatment?

Neither the infrared nor the mono polar radio frequency (the technology that allows Exilis to produce such great results) will remain in your body causing harm later on. Exilis uses a controlled heat that is only transmitted during the treatment.

Exilis is an extremely safe, non-invasive body contouring and skin tightening procedure.  There is no long-term risk to you or anyone else after Exilis treatments.  Exilis energy heats your tissues and is gone and done when the treatment is over.

There are no residual side effects from receiving Exilis mono polar radio frequency treatments. It is a safe alternative to surgery for skin tightening and fat contouring.

Is the Exilis treatment painful?

Exilis treatments should not be painful. In fact, no numbing is used during the treatment because it is very important for the provider to be aware of any discomfort that the patient is experiencing.

The facial treatments feel very warm, and most patients find them relaxing; if pain is felt, the provider immediately stops treating and adjusts the device to maintain patient comfort.

The body treatments do feel like a hot stone massage.  Sometimes the stretch marks may get a little sensitive but, again, one should not be in pain.

Hydration is key. If patients are well-hydrated prior to their appointments, the skin is well-hydrated and this translates into a much more comfortable patient.

How many treatments of Exilis fat reduction are needed to see results?

There is no magic number.  We recommend 4-6 treatments per area for best results.  On average patients notice a 1/2 inch to 1 inch reduction between treatments.  Individual results may vary.

Can Exilis reduce the size of my thighs?

The vast majority of our patients achieve desirable circumferential reductions in treatment areas. We have seen 2-4 inches in circumferential reduction within 4-5 treatments.

It is important is that you have realistic expectations as to the outcome post procedure. Exilis is not liposuction and the results may not be as dramatic as a more invasive surgery.

Do eye shields need to be used with Exilis for facial/under eye wrinkles?

Eye shields are not required when treating the face or underneath the eyes when undergoing Exilis treatments. Exilis is a radio frequency technology, not a laser, thus will not damage the eyes.

We have had incredible success in our office at reducing fine lines around the eyes with Exilis!

Exilis vs. liposuction?

Exilis is a noninvasive technology that uses both infrared and mono polar radio frequency to tighten and reduce fat in troublesome areas.

Exilis can be used on both the face and the body, but only on the body would both the infrared and radio frequency be used. We do not want to reduce fat in the face as it may cause premature signs of aging; thus, only infrared can be used.

Although we have had great results in our office, Exilis is NOT liposuction. Exilis will shrink down and excrete fat cells during the treatment while liposuction physically removes these cells.

Exilis is completely non-invasive with NO DOWNTIME.

Is there a certain weight that you have to be in order to receive Exilis treatments?

We always suggest using Exilis only for areas that are stubborn to diet and exercise. Therefore, we suggest that you are as close to your ideal weight as possible before starting your Exilis series.

As with any cosmetic procedure, excessive weight gain and loss can potentially negate the results of your treatment.

Can Exilis fix waves and dimple  irregularities from liposuction?

Exilis is excellent for removing post liposuction irregularities. There are obviously limitations to what it can do. If your skin is reasonable tight then use the Exilis.
